Inspire Future Innovators – The Robotics Club from Idea to Reality

WINNER 2025
SCHOOL

(Romania) The project Inspire Future Innovators – The Robotics Club from Idea to Reality aimed to provide access to technology and innovation for students from vulnerable backgrounds, including those from rural areas and special needs schools. Led by high school students, the project established robotics clubs in multiple schools, creating opportunities for hands-on STEM learning, mentoring, and collaboration. It involved 23 students and 3 teachers, reached 3,500 direct beneficiaries, and engaged 220 community partners such as universities, training centers, local authorities, companies, and robotics organizations.

The project promoted both inclusion and environmental awareness through robotics activities based on the theme of marine ecosystem sustainability. Students organized more than 50 sessions on robot building and programming, designed adapted study materials, trained teachers, and mentored younger teams. They developed a robotics club curriculum and organized competitions and events that encouraged creativity, teamwork, and responsible technology use.

The learning objectives focused on applying theoretical knowledge from mathematics, physics, computer science, media, and design in practical settings, while strengthening creative thinking, leadership, and collaboration. Service objectives centered on making STEM education accessible to all, raising awareness about environmental challenges, and promoting civic engagement through technology.

Students took on leadership roles in technical, programming, organizational, and marketing areas, managing all aspects of planning and implementation. They developed strong technical and communication skills, learned project and event management, and gained confidence and motivation to pursue STEM-related studies and careers. The project also emphasized values such as respect, inclusion, empathy, and civic responsibility.

The results were far-reaching. Robotics clubs were established across the county, new resources and workshops were created, and the project inspired other schools and institutions to adopt similar initiatives. Teachers and partners benefited from professional development opportunities, while students gained experience working with experts and presenting at national and international competitions. The project received multiple awards, including the Inspire Award for its strong community impact and exemplary outreach.

The initiative demonstrated how education, leadership, and service can come together to create lasting social impact. It built a sustainable network of educators, students, and organizations committed to inclusive STEM education and environmental sustainability. Its comprehensive documentation and strong partnerships make it a replicable model of innovative service-learning practice that empowers young people to lead with purpose and creativity.
